Well yesterday was interesting. It was election day and many people are happy, many are very upset. This happens every 4 years when we divide ourselves and assume electing a specific person will change everything for the better. The problem is, things aren’t going to change as fast as you think they are. But the direction will either be the way you want things to go or the exact opposite.
Through all of this there is one thing to seriously remember. You are still alive, you are still here and life is moving on with or without you. Don’t let this detract from your life. Things happen and they don’t always happen the way we want them to, and if it is the way you wanted it to turn out then be there for those who are disappointed and be a good winner. Life is too short for “I told you so” or anything like that.
Now, take a deep breath. Exhale. Repeat. Today is happening right now. In this moment you can decide to be happy. The world is still turning, the sun still came up this morning and there are things you need to do today.
Let go of the tension you have, everyone’s anxiety has risen this year because of this election and now it is over. We all know what happened and it is time to let go. Do not divide yourselves any longer. Like it or not we are all in this together and we all will have different opinions about everything.
I know I’m a minority for how I believe in many things in my life. Today I have met two Jehovah’s Witnesses who came to the door and two young men who are out on their missionary work as Mormons. Yet we were all pleasant to each other because we share one common trait, kindness towards others. My conversations were brief but they happily listened to my beliefs as I did theirs. We have a different idea of what happens when we die and why we are here, but we are able to respect each other. Practice this as often as possible even when you feel people do not respect your ideals. Listen, learn, respect and still form your own opinion.
As I grow older my opinions change every year. I learn from others and I keep an open mind. Just because you do not like a situation does not mean it is bad. It is what you make of it. Maybe this gives you a chance to fight for what you believe in, maybe this is the push you needed to do something more with your own life. The universe is a mysterious place, we are all here spinning on this little blue rock trying to keep everything together. Suddenly a silly little election can put everything into perspective.
I don’t take sides, I do form opinions and base decisions off of those opinions, but I don’t like to take sides.
So Yesterday happened. All I know is that tomorrow is a new day and today is happening right now! I am not going to waste it by complaining. I am not going to waste it at all. It is far too nice of a day to let it pass without taking in what it has to offer! Live this life, embrace everything about it. Embrace the fact that you are still here, still alive and still able to feel all of the wonderful things today has to offer you.
